In a landmark achievement, the Odisha women’s hockey team secured their first-ever gold medal at the 7th Khelo India Youth Games 2025, held in Rajgir, Bihar. The team triumphed over Jharkhand with a 3-1 victory in a thrilling penalty shootout after the final match ended in a 1-1 draw during regular time.

Captain Drupati Naik was instrumental in the victory, scoring twice in the shootout and once in the semifinals, leading Odisha to a 2-1 win against Madhya Pradesh. Her outstanding performance placed her among the tournament’s top scorers, with three goals to her name.

The team’s journey to the final was marked by impressive performances, including a 5-0 win over Bihar and a 2-0 victory against Maharashtra in the league stage.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated the team, stating, “Many congratulations and best wishes to the Odisha women’s hockey team for winning the gold medal by defeating Jharkhand by 3-1 in the shootout at the Khelo India Youth Games—2025. The state is proud of your success. I wish you all the best and success.”

Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik also extended his best wishes, saying, “Congratulate Odisha Women’s Hockey Team on winning gold medal in Khelo India Youth Games 2025 by defeating Jharkhand in 3-1. May the team continue its winning momentum and bring glory for the state. Best wishes.”

Coach Florencia Ekka attributed the team’s success to their hard work and the support from the Odisha Government.
