India’s cricketing stalwart Rohit Sharma has officially retired from Test cricket, marking the end of an 11-year red-ball career. The announcement was made via social media, where Rohit expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent India in whites. He confirmed that he will continue playing One Day Internationals (ODIs).

It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites,” said Rohit in his farewell note.

Rohit played 67 Tests, scoring 4301 runs with 12 centuries, and captained India in 24 matches since succeeding Virat Kohli in 2022. Despite a promising start, his Test journey saw highs and lows, including a standout performance as an opener from 2019 and his final assignment in Australia last year, where India lost the series 3-1.

His red-ball legacy includes iconic centuries against England, South Africa, West Indies, and a memorable double century (212) against South Africa in Ranchi. However, a recent dip in form, coupled with India’s home series loss to New Zealand, marked a somber end to his Test tenure.

With India’s upcoming England tour on the horizon, the squad will now be picked with a new Test captain at the helm.
