PM Modi Takes Bullet Train Ride with Japanese PM Ishiba, Meets Indian Train Drivers in Japan

Tokyo/Sendai, August 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a bullet train ride with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba as part of his two-day visit to Japan. The two leaders traveled to Sendai city, highlighting India-Japan cooperation in railway technology and high-speed connectivity.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba shared pictures from the ride on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “With Prime Minister Modi to Sendai. Continuing from last night, I will be with you in the car.”

Modi Meets Indian Train Drivers Training in Japan

During the journey, PM Modi met with several Indian train drivers undergoing specialized training at the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). The drivers lined up to greet him, and Modi also posed with them for photographs.

The interaction showcased Japan’s role in supporting India’s bullet train project and strengthening human resource development in railway operations.

Interaction with Japanese Governors

Earlier in Tokyo, PM Modi held discussions with governors of sixteen Japanese prefectures. The talks were centered around boosting collaboration under the State-Prefecture Partnership Initiative, which was launched during the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit on Friday.

Highlighting the importance of regional cooperation, Modi said:
“State-prefecture cooperation is a vital pillar of India-Japan friendship. That is why a separate initiative was launched yesterday during the Annual Summit.”

He further emphasized opportunities in trade, innovation, entrepreneurship, startups, technology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), calling them “futuristic sectors” that can drive mutual growth.
