Aug 15, 2025: Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren passed away on Friday at the age of 62 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in New Delhi. He had been on life support since August 2, after suffering a fall at his residence in Jamshedpur.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) national spokesperson Kunal Sarangi confirmed the news, stating that Soren’s condition had been critical despite continuous monitoring by a team of specialists.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed deep grief, writing on X, “Ramdas Da should not have left us like this. Last greetings to Dada.”
Political Journey and Legacy
Born on January 1, 1963, in Ghorabandha village of East Singhbhum district, Soren began his career as gram pradhan of the Ghorabanda panchayat before rising through the ranks to become a senior leader in the Hemant Soren-led cabinet.
He represented the Ghatshila Assembly constituency, where he secured a third consecutive term in the 2024 state elections, defeating BJP candidate Babulal Soren, son of former Chief Minister Champai Soren.
Respected for his grassroots connection, Ramdas Soren was a staunch advocate of tribal rights and education reforms, and was widely regarded as one of the most grounded leaders of the JMM.
Tributes Across Political Spectrum
Leaders across party lines condoled his death. BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Dev described him as a “true soldier and agitator of the JMM party”. He added, “In 12 days, Jharkhand first lost the universally accepted Dishom Guru Shibu Soren Ji, and now one of its agitator sons, Ramdas Soren. The whole state is deeply saddened by this double blow.”
The JMM, already mourning the loss of party patriarch Shibu Soren earlier this month, has now suffered another major setback with Ramdas Soren’s demise.
