Shimla, July 1, 2025 — Heavy and persistent rainfall across Himachal Pradesh has triggered a series of natural calamities, including building collapses, landslides, and flash floods, especially in Mandi and Sirmaur districts. Despite the devastation, swift action by local authorities and rescue teams has helped save dozens of lives, with relief operations continuing on war footing.
Mandi District: Worst Hit by Cloudbursts and Flash Floods
Among the most severely affected areas is Mandi district, where Karsog and Dharampur have borne the brunt of flash floods and landslides. In Karsog, flash floods swept away the old town market, with visuals showing vehicles being carried away in the raging waters. Houses along the riverbanks have suffered structural damage, and residents were stranded due to the sudden surge in water levels.
Tragically, one fatality has been reported. However, thanks to prompt action by local authorities, more than 25 people have been safely rescued so far. DSP Taranjeet Singh, speaking to IANS, confirmed that disaster response teams are actively engaged and prepared for further operations.
In Dharampur, landslides triggered by continuous rainfall led to the collapse of several houses and loss of domestic animals. Relief teams are working tirelessly to clear debris and provide shelter to the affected.
Gohar Subdivision: Lives at Risk, But Rescues Bring Hope
A house in Gohar subdivision was completely washed away by floodwaters. Multiple families have been reported missing, while a mother and daughter were successfully rescued, offering hope in the midst of despair. The missing persons include elderly residents and children, and search operations are underway with urgency.
Sirmaur District: Infrastructure Impacted, Authorities Respond Swiftly
Further south, Sirmaur district is experiencing similar conditions. Incessant rainfall has led to waterlogging on roads, transport disruptions, and power outages due to damaged transformers. Yet, local officials and engineers are working round the clock to restore essential services.
HRTC Regional Manager Asheenth Sharma confirmed that 10 bus routes have been temporarily suspended. These include four routes each from Nahan and Pachhad, and two from Dadahu, due to road blockages and landslide threats. He assured the public that services will resume as soon as safety is ensured.
Public Safety and Preventive Measures
Given the swelling rivers and overflowing drains, authorities have advised the public to avoid riverbanks and stay away from high-risk zones. Schools and colleges across Mandi district have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.
Rescue and relief teams across the state remain on high alert. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and volunteers continue to coordinate efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
Moving Forward with Resilience
While the devastation caused by the monsoon’s fury is undeniable, the efficiency of local authorities, the bravery of rescue personnel, and the resilience of the people of Himachal Pradesh are shining through. As the state continues to respond to the challenges posed by nature, efforts are focused not only on relief but also on ensuring recovery and rebuilding with greater preparedness.
