PM Modi Calls for Grand Celebration of 150 Years of Vande Mataram, Says It Symbolises India’s Unity and Spirit

New Delhi, October 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 127th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, highlighted the timeless significance of India’s national song, Vande Mataram, describing it as a powerful symbol of patriotism, unity, and national pride. He said that patriotism is a feeling that transcends words — and Vande Mataram gives voice to that emotion.

Recalling its origins, PM Modi shared that Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay composed Vande Mataram in the 19th century to awaken a sense of national pride during the colonial era. He noted that the song was first sung publicly by Rabindranath Tagore in 1896, and since then, it has inspired generations of Indians to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation.

“The chant of Vande Mataram has united Indians through the toughest times,” the Prime Minister said, adding that it continues to fill 140 crore citizens with strength, resolve, and love for the motherland. He also connected the song’s spirit to India’s ancient wisdom and the values reflected in the Vedas, symbolizing reverence for Bharat Mata and the country’s cultural ethos.

Call for 150th Year Celebration

As Vande Mataram marks its 150th anniversary on November 7, PM Modi urged citizens to celebrate this historic milestone with enthusiasm. He said that nationwide programs and cultural events will be organized to honour the national song’s legacy and inspire future generations to uphold its ideals.

Mann Ki Baat, broadcast on the last Sunday of every month, serves as a platform for the Prime Minister to engage with citizens on key national themes and encourage collective participation in the country’s progress.
