Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Jharsuguda on September 27, where he will address a massive public meeting and unveil development projects worth ₹1,700 crore.
Change of Venue from Berhampur to Jharsuguda
Originally, the Prime Minister was to address a rally in Berhampur on the same day. However, following predictions of heavy rain and strong winds by the India Meteorological Department, the venue was shifted to Jharsuguda to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the programme.
Projects to Be Launched
During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple infrastructure projects, with a special emphasis on railway connectivity. These projects are expected to boost economic activity and improve regional connectivity.
A key highlight of the visit will be the flagging off of the Amrit Bharat Express between Berhampur and Surat. The new train service is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters, especially migrant workers from Odisha working in Gujarat.
Visit Schedule & Preparations
Although the complete itinerary has not yet been announced, sources suggest that this may be a two-day tour of Odisha. Preparations are already in full swing at the rally ground in Jharsuguda.
State BJP president Manmohan Samal recently reviewed the arrangements and held discussions with local party leaders to ensure smooth execution of the programme.
PM Modi’s Recent Odisha Visits
This will be PM Modi’s second visit to Odisha in recent months. During his last trip in September 2024, the Prime Minister celebrated his birthday in Bhubaneswar by sharing ‘Kheer’ prepared by a tribal woman in Gadakana. He had also launched the ambitious Subhadra Yojana during the same tour.
With the upcoming visit, political observers say the BJP is aiming to strengthen its base in western Odisha ahead of the 2029 general elections, while also reinforcing its development agenda for the State.
