Odisha Weather Update: IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in Several Districts Till August 31

Bhubaneswar, August 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to heavy rainfall across Odisha over the next few days, with several districts likely to receive very heavy showers. The continuous rain is expected to bring relief from the scorching heat by lowering temperatures by 2–4°C, but it may also cause waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and power outages in urban areas.

Heavy Rainfall Alerts for August 28

According to IMD, districts such as Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, and Bargarh are expected to witness very heavy rainfall today.

Other districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, are likely to experience light to moderate showers.

Forecast for Coming Days

  • August 29–30: Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Bargarh may see heavy rainfall.

  • August 30–31: Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh are expected to experience widespread showers.

Advisory for Residents, Fishermen, and Farmers

  • The IMD has urged residents to limit outdoor movement during heavy rain and follow safety guidelines.

  • Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into seas and rivers until conditions improve.

  • Farmers have been cautioned to take preventive measures to protect kharif crops, as excessive rainfall could affect crop growth and yield.

Rain Likely in Neighboring States

Apart from Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Assam are also expected to experience significant rainfall in the coming days due to the prevailing weather system.

With continuous rainfall predicted, the IMD has advised all stakeholders to stay alert and take precautionary measures against potential flooding and crop damage.
