Veteran Actor Achyut Potdar Passes Away at 91; Known for Iconic Role in 3 Idiots

Mumbai, Aug 19, 2025: Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, best remembered for his iconic role as a professor in Rajkumar Hirani’s blockbuster 3 Idiots, passed away on Monday in Thane at the age of 91. The actor, who had been admitted to a hospital recently due to age-related complications, breathed his last in the presence of his family. His funeral will be held on August 19 in Thane.

The news was confirmed by Star Pravah’s official Instagram handle, which paid tribute with the message:
“A heartfelt tribute to senior actor Achyut Potdar… His smile, simplicity and honesty in every role will always be remembered.”

A Journey from Armed Forces to Cinema

Born in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Achyut Potdar’s life was marked by dedication and versatility. Before entering the entertainment industry, he served in the Indian Army and later worked at the Indian Oil Company. He also briefly taught as a professor in Rewa before pursuing his passion for acting.

Interestingly, Potdar entered showbiz relatively late, beginning his acting career at the age of 44.
