New Delhi, Aug 18, 2025: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), currently functioning from the South Block, is all set to move into the newly constructed Executive Enclave next month, government sources confirmed. The relocation marks a major step in the ambitious Central Vista project, which aims to modernize India’s administrative infrastructure.
New PMO with Modern Facilities
The Executive Enclave, located just a few hundred metres from the existing South Block, has been built to house the PMO, Cabinet Secretariat, National Security Council Secretariat, and a state-of-the-art conferencing facility. The new PMO will also be closer to the Prime Minister’s residence, providing greater ease of functioning.
Officials highlighted that the move was necessitated due to space constraints and outdated facilities in older British-era buildings. The new office complex is designed with modern infrastructure in line with India’s image as a rising global economic power.
Previous Shifts and Modernisation Efforts
Earlier this month, the Ministries of Home Affairs and Personnel shifted to Kartavya Bhavan-3, inaugurated by the Prime Minister. In his address, the PM noted that India’s administrative system had long been operating from colonial-era structures with inadequate space, lighting, and ventilation.
“It is difficult to imagine how an important ministry like the Ministry of Home Affairs functioned for nearly a century from a single, outdated building,” he remarked.
Possible New Name for the PMO
Sources said the new PMO may be given a new name, reflecting the Centre’s effort to align Central Vista projects with the ethos of ‘sewa’ (service). After assuming office for a third term, the Prime Minister had stressed that the PMO must serve the people, stating: “The PMO should be the people’s PMO. It cannot be Modi’s PMO.”
Future Plans for North and South Block
With the shift of key offices, the historic North Block and South Block, which have served as the nerve centre of governance for nearly eight decades, will be transformed into a world-class museum named ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat Sangrahalaya’.
An agreement has already been signed between the National Museum and France Museums Development for the project. According to the government, the museum will showcase India’s cultural heritage, celebrating its timeless traditions, history, and vision for the future.
