TPSODL Expands ‘Model Gram Panchayat’ Initiative to 127 Villages in Southern Odisha

Berhampur, Odisha – July 28, 2025: In a major stride towards rural empowerment, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has extended its flagship ‘Model Gram Panchayat (GP)’ initiative to 14 more villages, bringing the total number of transformed GPs to 127 across eight districts in Southern Odisha. The initiative is poised to benefit over 2 lakh rural residents, significantly improving power infrastructure and community services.

This expansion is part of TPSODL’s broader commitment to enhance customer experience through reliable electricity supply, safe infrastructure, digital inclusion, and community engagement.

What Is the Model GP Initiative?

Launched with the vision to create self-reliant, digitally empowered, and energy-resilient rural communities, the Model GP program targets gram panchayats requiring infrastructure upgrades, service reliability, and electrical safety awareness.

The initiative offers:

  • Improved power supply reliability

  • Timely meter readings and billing

  • Easy access to new connections

  • Quick grievance redressal

  • Enhanced customer support

  • Digital literacy and e-bill adoption

  • Community awareness on electrical safety

Each selected village undergoes comprehensive upgrades, including pole and cable replacement, distribution transformer (DTR) upgradation, and network augmentation.

CSR and Digital Empowerment at the Grassroots

In addition to technical improvements, TPSODL has undertaken extensive community-centric programs as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):

  • Digital literacy camps promoting e-payments and bill digitization

  • Livelihood enhancement workshops for women Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

  • “Club Enerji” sessions to educate school students and communities about energy conservation

  • Electrical safety campaigns and the creation of Zero Unsafe Locations

  • Fuse Call Complaint Centres (Sampark Kendras) established for real-time issue resolution

These efforts are fostering a digitally aware, electrically safe, and financially literate rural population.

With 19 operational divisions covered, the initiative sets the foundation for rural transformation, digital adoption, and power sector inclusivity in Southern Odisha.
