London, July 15 — England defeated India by 22 runs in a gripping Day 5 finish of the third Test at Lord’s, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Chasing a modest target of 193, India were bowled out for 170, despite a valiant unbeaten 61 from Ravindra Jadeja.
The English bowlers delivered under pressure on the final day, with Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer taking three wickets each, while Shoaib Bashir capped off England’s victory by claiming the final wicket.
India Falter Despite Jadeja’s Resistance
India began Day 5 with hope, needing 78 runs with four wickets in hand. Jadeja stood firm at one end, carefully steering the innings with tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, wickets fell at regular intervals, and the lack of a solid partnership proved costly.
Jadeja’s gritty knock of 61 off 181 balls, including 5 boundaries, was not enough to rescue India, who collapsed from 132/6 to 170 all out. Rishabh Pant’s first-innings run-out and the team’s inability to build 50-run stands in either innings proved decisive.
Bowling Brilliance from England
England’s bowling attack rose to the occasion. Stokes and Archer used the Lord’s conditions effectively to keep India under pressure, while Bashir, despite sustaining a finger injury earlier in the match, came on to dismiss Siraj and seal the win.
