PM Modi Embarks on Landmark Five-Nation Tour to Strengthen Global South Ties, Attend BRICS Summit in Brazil

New Delhi, July 2, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed today on a significant five-nation tour, aimed at deepening India’s engagement with key players across the Global South and reinforcing its commitment to multilateral platforms such as BRICS, the African Union, CARICOM, and ECOWAS. A key highlight of the visit will be his participation in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6–7.

“This tour is a crucial step towards strengthening India’s partnerships across continents and reinforcing our vision of an inclusive, just, and multipolar world,” said Prime Minister Modi in a statement before departure.

Itinerary and Key Objectives

1. Ghana (July 2–3)

PM Modi will begin his journey in Accra, Ghana, where he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President John Dramani Mahama. Discussions will focus on investment, energy, health, security, and development partnerships. He will also address the Ghanaian Parliament, reinforcing India’s historic democratic ties with this key member of the African Union and ECOWAS.

“Ghana is a valued partner in the Global South, and I look forward to exploring new areas of cooperation,” Modi noted.

2. Trinidad and Tobago (July 3–4)

The visit will mark a celebration of 180 years of Indian presence in Trinidad and Tobago. Modi will meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, both of Indian origin.

“This visit will rejuvenate our deep-rooted bonds of ancestry and culture,” Modi said, highlighting the importance of diaspora diplomacy.

3. Argentina (July 4–5)

In a historic visit — the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years — PM Modi will hold talks with President Javier Milei. The focus will be on agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, technology, and tourism.

“Argentina is a key economic partner in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G20,” said Modi.

4. Brazil & BRICS Summit (July 6–7)

In Rio de Janeiro, PM Modi will attend the BRICS Summit, where a leaders’ declaration is expected to strongly condemn terrorism, including the recent Pahalgam attack. He will meet global leaders on the sidelines and emphasize the need for a balanced, equitable multipolar world order.

“BRICS remains a vital platform for cooperation among emerging economies. India is committed to reshaping the global governance architecture in a more democratic and just way,” Modi stated.

Modi will also make a bilateral visit to Brasilia, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades, to meet President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, strengthening strategic ties and South-South collaboration.

5. Namibia (Final Leg)

PM Modi’s final stop will be Namibia, where he will meet President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and address a joint session of the Namibian Parliament. Talks are expected to chart a new roadmap for cooperation in key sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, and wildlife conservation.

“Namibia is an important partner in Africa. Together, we will explore ways to build stronger regional and global partnerships,” said Modi.

A Message of Unity and Global Collaboration

Throughout the week-long tour, PM Modi will participate in bilateral, multilateral, and cultural engagements, emphasizing India’s role as a bridge between developing economies and a proactive contributor to global peace and prosperity.

“I am confident that this visit will reinforce our bonds of friendship, deepen strategic partnerships, and contribute to building a better world,” the Prime Minister affirmed in a message posted on social media.
