Bhubaneswar, June 29, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall across Odisha over the next few days due to a low-pressure area persisting over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts.
According to the latest IMD bulletin issued on Monday, the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels, and the system is expected to move west-northwestwards across North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand in the next 48 hours.
As a result, thunderstorms accompanied by heavy to very heavy rainfall are likely in several districts of Odisha, prompting the IMD to issue Orange and Yellow weather warnings for the state.

Precautionary Measures Advised
The IMD has urged local administrations and residents to remain alert, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone regions. People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours and stay updated through official weather bulletins.
Significance of the Rainfall
This rain-bearing system is expected to boost monsoon activity in the region, benefiting the agriculture sector and groundwater recharge, especially in interior districts that have experienced erratic rain patterns this season.
The Odisha government has activated emergency control rooms in sensitive districts and has deployed disaster response teams as a precautionary measure.
