Neeraj Chopra Clinches Paris Diamond League Title with 88.16m Throw

Paris, June 21, 2025 — Reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra reaffirmed his dominance on the global stage by winning the Paris leg of the Diamond League 2025 with a commanding throw of 88.16 metres, sealing his first Diamond League victory in two years.

The Indian javelin sensation outclassed a competitive field that included defending World Champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and Germany’s Julian Weber, who had previously bested Chopra at the Doha leg of this year’s series.

Victory with the Very First Throw

Chopra’s winning effort came in his first attempt of the night, a massive 88.16m that remained unsurpassed through all subsequent rounds. While Weber mounted a strong challenge with 87.88m, he ultimately settled for second place.

Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio da Silva claimed third place with a personal best of 86.62m, marking his most impressive international outing to date.

Notably, this is Chopra’s first win over Julian Weber in three head-to-head meetings this season — a significant psychological edge ahead of the crucial final leg in Zurich.

Off-Day for Anderson Peters

Grenada’s Anderson Peters, considered Chopra’s fiercest rival, had a lackluster evening. His best throw of 80.29m fell well below his usual standards, following an opening attempt of just 77.89m.

Upcoming Events for Neeraj Chopra

Chopra is set to return to action at the Ostrava Golden Spike on June 24, 2025, in the Czech Republic, a key preparatory event leading up to the World Athletics Championships later this year.

Following Ostrava, the 26-year-old will compete on home soil at the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on July 5, an event expected to draw wide public and media attention.

Diamond League 2025: Season Progress

The Paris meet was the 8th of the 15 Diamond League events scheduled for 2025. The season will culminate with the final in Zurich on August 27–28, where the top athletes from across the disciplines will vie for overall Diamond League glory.

Neeraj Chopra: A National Icon

Chopra’s consistency continues to elevate Indian athletics on the global map. After clinching gold at Tokyo 2020, a World Championship silver in 2022, and a Diamond League title in 2022, this victory strengthens his position as one of India’s greatest-ever track and field athletes.
