In a landmark development for Odisha’s healthcare sector, a Super Speciality Hospital was inaugurated today within the premises of Veer Surendra Sai Medical College, Burla, Sambalpur. The inauguration was formally conducted by Sri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister for Education, Government of India, who is also serving as the Member of Parliament from Sambalpur.
The newly inaugurated facility is set to benefit not only Sambalpur district but also serve as a critical healthcare hub for 13 neighbouring districts, offering advanced and affordable medical care across a range of specialities. The hospital is also equipped to provide focused treatment for Sickle Cell Disease, addressing a long-standing health challenge in western Odisha.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of local MLAs, the District Collector of Sambalpur, and senior officials from various departments, reflecting the coordinated efforts at multiple levels of governance to strengthen public healthcare in the region.
Speaking at the event, Hon’ble Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed deep satisfaction over the operationalisation of this facility, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring quality healthcare reaches every citizen, especially those in remote and underserved regions.
This initiative aligns with the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and State Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, to enhance public healthcare infrastructure and make super speciality services accessible to the last mile.
The Burla Super Speciality Hospital marks a significant milestone in decentralizing advanced healthcare services and is expected to reduce the patient load on major urban hospitals while delivering timely and specialised treatment to thousands across western Odisha and beyond.
