Pak Army Spokesperson Threatens India Over Indus Treaty, Echoes Hafiz Saeed’s Rhetoric

Trending international news

In a provocative escalation, Pakistani military spokesperson Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry issued a threat to India over the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, using language eerily similar to that of designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

Speaking at a university event in Pakistan, Chaudhry warned, “If you block our water, we will choke your breath,” a phrase directly resembling the inflammatory statements made by the 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, as seen in circulating videos on social media platform X.

The threat comes in response to India’s decision to suspend parts of the Indus Waters Treaty on April 23, a day after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir that claimed 26 lives. The treaty, in place since 1960 and mediated by the World Bank, outlines water-sharing obligations for the Indus River system.

India’s move reflects its growing resolve against terrorism, with the government reiterating that “blood and water cannot flow together.” Furthering its counter-terror stance, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The rhetoric by Chaudhry has sparked outrage, with observers noting the disturbing parallels between the official military discourse and extremist propaganda. The development marks a new low in India-Pakistan ties and raises fresh concerns over regional stability.
